Description: Tours Fez, a walled city in Morocco founded in 808 as the capital of a sultanate, focusing on the theme of Fez's centuries-old medieval lifestyle and architecture which are only now disappearing. Views streets and their archways, which lead into small enclosures, markets, and the courtyards of mosques. Observes craftsmen, including copper and brass workers, silversmiths, carpenters, carpetweavers, leatherworkers, and tailors, as they work in their tiny cubicles along the street. States that Fez was an intellectual center in the early Middle Ages and that its university contains one of the best collections of Islamic manuscripts in existence.
