This film explores many of the variations of the canon, ranging from the classical "Tallis Canon" to a contemporary "Rock Canon." The viewer learns to identify the sounds of the instruments, to recognize counterpoint, melodic repetition, time intervals and various harmonic intervals., Uses live action and animation to define and examine the structure and component elements of the canon. Plays each element of the canon on the trumpet, trombone, and alto and baritone saxophones, while diagrammatically emphasizing each respective note played in the score. Explores interaction of counterpoint, melodic repetition, time intervals, and various harmonic intervals.
