[Music] welcome to playtime I'm Jerry Bartel and these are the play timers will join me in acting out a story for young people and the young in heart obviously were all at sea today and the Sooners addressed to fit our surroundings we'll be back with a story of black Mike Fischer have you ever seen a real honest-to-goodness pirate well you're looking at one right now his name is black mud and that's I should say he used to be a pirate he nailed it slope of a mountain vanish main flying the skull and crossbones and strongmen shared in their boots that the name of the lac might he's been a pirated memory only he lives a shore in this little house to the sea and the reason for this great change in black Mike or rather the reasons are Anthony and Isabel there's grandchildren their mother and father died when Anthony was a baby and it was not to black Mike to raise them a pirate ship is hardly the place for two small children throw here he is a landlubber he has a small garden to tend Henry the parrot to talk to and for old times sake every morning between 11:00 and 11:30 through a spyglass he keeps an eye on the sea before him meanwhile the children about growing up Isabelle is old enough now to cook the oatmeal and sometimes she doesn't burn it and she's very serious about her responsibility of seeing that grandpa takes his panic he minds her very well something in there can't see any better nurse cross-eyed monkey this is a new spyglass he just bought it yesterday or the second-hand store and he's beginning to think he got a bad bargain well I'll be a pickled sea horse [Music] take your man black Mike is reminded of all he's almost forgotten in as many years of your rolodex Benitez King of Spades ah there's a light for a man while free life of piracy June Anthony and Isabel aren't babies anymore it's my time they learn something about ships and navigation this is a chance of a lifetime yes he'll go after that belly shaker and take the children along Circle a all right with em that all right with you - Henry black Mike took all his savings from under the mattress and went out to buy a sailing ship complete with a barrel of oatmeal Isabel and Anthony we're quite excited about the voyage nothing so wonderful that ever happened to them before the young man waited on them was a pleasant fellow with a compass pinned on his breast-pocket sole black Mike showed him the map or at least a corner of it and invited him to come along on the journey as first mate are you with us voyage Anthony was as convinced as black Mike that they find very treasure but Isabel being just the right age to know everything knew better hidden pirate treasure existed only in storybooks she was sure but she hated to have grandpa disappointed so she and Theodore arranged to take on board the ship secretly a could be pirate chest stuff with could be pirate loot tarnished plates and goblets that might have been gold or silver some jewelry that had seen better days and for good measure a single old gold coin Theodore had been sailing for good luck that's done they are ready to set out to sea [Music] there they are aboard ship the sun is shining there's a fine baking freeze the anchors up sales are up and they are we don't know from the starboard side we don't know from sailors we're unqualified we couldn't sail a rap and if you think it queer that we should face the sea so remember there's no slack Mike I hate to admit it but after all these years ashore black Mike seems to have lost his sea legs the least roll and toss and black Mike is seasick it's up to the rest of the crew now to get the ship where it's going fortunately Anthony and Isabelle take well to the sea and Isabella's taking well to Theodore so everybody's happy except black Mike with the skipper sick and his bus below and Anthony's busy with his duties as cabin boy second mate in chief bottle washer Theodore and Isabelle are able to work out the scheme they'll follow when they reached the island during the night they'll secretly take a shore the chest they brought from home and bury it in the spot marked X on the map black Mike will find it in the morning and won't have to go home empty-handed his last fling as a pirate will be a hair [Music] but fate interferes with our plans as they near the island a fierce storm blows them off course it's all they can do to keep the ship afloat suffering in his bunk below huh when the storm dies down a sunset there in the shelter of a small lagoon on the lured side of an island not the island shown on black Mike's treasure map but he doesn't know that so in US over the situation he finds it to his liking congratulations Malloy in the morning they'll go ashore and dig up the treasure yes the wrong Island but Isabelle and Theodore figured that since there's no treasure on either Island this one will serve their purpose as well as the other so they go ashore in the dead of night while black Mike and Anthony sleep finds a spot marked X on the map and bury their treasure chest right there morning everybody's up early black mike has his usual breakfast burnt oatmeal Anthony can't wait to get ashore now for the taker black Mike studies his math again and now there's the tree we start from hello Minnie 20 paces wet no no grandpa 20 paces East you're going in the wrong direction 20 paces west see ya well there's nothing for Isabelle and Theodore to do but following you'll never find the chest of bayberry 20 paces east of the tree but they did their best 19 20 this should be the place now we'll dig right yeah now who has the shovel this is a job for the captain this is a job for the first mate hit add up my boy the map says this is the place and I'm gonna find that treasure Oh shuttle stops suddenly Theodore's aching back doesn't make anymore is it really didn't pirate treasure but they're not even on the right island this can't be no it's a rock perhaps or a treat on your chest not the one Isabelle and Peter buried but a real pirate chest the rusty locks tell that it's been in the ground a good long time and they give way easily to black Mike eager pounding this beats anything he's ever seen before it all goes to show that given a good mess and a good man can I pirate oh there's a moral to this story somewhere I'm sure if I can only think of one perhaps it tells us to know what we want door after it you will find it or perhaps it's just that it never does any harm to try to make someone you love and happy you may even end up being happy yourself and that's the story of black Mike's treasure tingle play the part of Anthony gay was Isabelle candy was Theodore black Mike and the storyteller for yours truly Jerry bar tell all of us food back another day when it's playtime with another story till then happy selling [Music] [Applause] [Music]
