Description: This musical short features performances by vocalist/pianist Hadda Brooks, known for her low, sultry voice. Brooks sings and accompanies herself on the piano to selections Don't take your love from me, Don't you think I ought to know and I'm tired of everything but you. (This film is part of the Tyler, Texas Black Film Collection, a group of motion pictures made between 1935 and 1956 featuring mostly or all-Black casts, produced and and/or directed by African American filmmakers and shown primarily to Black audiences. All films are preceded by a 4 minute explanatory introduction by Ossie Davis.), One film in a series of films that are part of the TYLER TEXAS BLACK FILM COLLECTION. In 1983 Dr. G. Williams Jones, a film historian, was asked to look over "some old films that have been sitting around for a long time" in a Tyler, Texas warehouse. What he found was a unique collection of feature films, musical shorts, and newsreels directed and acted by blacks for black audiences. The films offer a mix of sheer entertainment and an uncommon look at black social and political expectations of the past. This is pointed out in a seven-minute segment which begins each film in the collection. The introduction is narrated by noted black film actor, Ossie Davis. In BOOGIE WOOGIE BLUES, Hadda Brooks sings "Don't Take Your Love from Me," "I'm Tired of Everything But You," and "Don't You Think I Ought to Know" and accompanies herself on the piano.
