Description: Navajo filmmaker Susie Benally documents the activities of her mother, Alta Kahn, as she prepares to weave a rug. After a series of shots showing a Navajo woman at her loom, the camera records the preliminary jobs of raising sheep, shearing the wool, digging yucca roots for soap to wash the wool, carding, spinning, retrieving the roots with which to dye the wool and putting the warp on the loom. Mrs. Kahn is seen walking and searching for the materials necessary to complete her project. Towards the end of the film, the woman begins to weave the rug as the camera records scenes of life around the hogan., Views Susie Benally, a young Navajo, as she watches her mother weaving at the loom. Includes all of the necessary steps prior to the actual weaving.
