This early Hitchcock film concerns a screenwriter falsely accused of murdering a movie star in an English village. The daughter of the local chief constable falls for the accused and helps him prove his innocence. Cast: Nova Philbeam, Percy Marmont.
Robert Tisdall (Derrick De Marney) is the only suspect in the murder of Christine Clay (Pamela Carme), a successful actress, at a retreat on the English coast. Christine Clay was strangled with the belt from a raincoat; his raincoat is missing and he says it was recently stolen. The authorities assume the two have been having an affair, but the authorities think they have hit upon motive and Tisdal is arrested. He escapes with the aid of Erica Burgoyne, daughter of the local police Chief Constable, who is taken in by the police.
