Tells of Charles Goodyear's struggle to make India rubber usable for commercial purposes. He is shown imprisoned for his inability to pay debts incurred for his research. He continues his research, even in prison, and by a fortunate accident discovers the process of culcanizing rubber. Concluding scenes show Daniel Webster defending in a court of law Goodyear's claims to the patents.
