Complete Record: Explains how wind, mountains and temperature create deserts. The Great American Desert shown in the film includes Monument Valley, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest and Death Valley. The film catches some of the elusive mysteries of the desert; mirages and phantom lakes, massive rocks that move, and the Salton Sea which creates mud-pots. The phenomenon of a desert cloudburst is shown, followed by a flash flood which eventually disappears and leaves a carpet of desert flowers. Time-lapse photography shows one of nature’s greatest miracles - the heart of a living flower.
