The Best of Families, No. 4: Ambition

The year is 1890. Teddy Wheeler, who is a prominent banker, decides on philanthropy as a way to make his bank better known. He establishes a competition for the design and construction of a housing project to be named for his mother. The lives of the Wheelers and Lathrops cross when James Lathrop wins the competition. Financial problems with the project and a subsequent mugging by an Irish street gang reverse Lathrop's fortunes once more. The Raffertys continue on a shoestring existence.
