Description: This tale from the Ivory Coast was filmed on location and acted by the people of this African country. Long ago, the people of Soutilé were known to be the most inhospitable people on earth. One day, when the inhabitants were celebrating the rich rice harvest, a beggar came to the village. The children taunted the stranger; the adults tormented him and threw stones at him. Only young Mauwa offered him sustenance and shelter from the hostile crowd. To reward her kindness, the beggar warned the young girl and her family to leave Soutilé. Heeding the beggar's admonition, Mauwa and her family escaped the dire punishment meted out to the evil villagers. In the Ivory Coast today, all are told this legend and reminded that: In every stranger hides a god; open to him the door of your home and your heart.
