Sigmund Freud: his offices and home, Vienna, 1938

Based on the historic pictures taken by Edmund Engelman just before Freud fled to England to escape Nazi persecution, this film explores the extraordinary environment created by Freud at 19 Berggasse. A tour of the birthplace of psychoanalysis, reveals Freud's famous couch in his book-lined study just as his patients and colleagues saw it over 40 years ago. The highlight of the film is Freud's collection of antiquities and the parallel drawn between his interest in archaeology and his own explorations into the past.
