Complete Record: New York City sewage treatment workers explore many miles of the city beneath the city. In keeping the population safe from disease, these workers provide a vital link in the health defenses of major cities. Opens with montage of potatoes stalls at market with police inspector; switchboard operator receives call of a hold- up; two shots of animals at a zoo. First interview takes place with the World Trade Center under construction in the background. Second sequence of workers suiting up, lifting manhole cover, climbing ladder down into sewer, concludes with shots in sewer tunnels. After direct- address second interview, interiors of sewage treatment plant with large industrial mechanized equipment, exteriors of water- treatment tracts.
