Description: This documentary charts the efforts of scientists to re-establish endangered sea otter colonies. Because of their luxurious pelts, the sea otters were hunted from the days of Captain Cook to their near-extermination in the 1920's. In the 1970's, a sealift was organized to transplant the few remaining colonies to secure sites in California. The otter's feeding, breeding and grooming habits are presented. Experts explain why the otter is the keystone species of its particular ecological system.
