Description: The architectural murals of Richard Haas are transforming cities across the U.S. His playful, adroitly-executed interior and exterior trompe l'oeil illusions startle and beguile passers-by with their realistic detail. In this documentary, the Wisconsin-born artist describes his working methodologies and sources of inspiration, particularly the works of Piranesi and the painted architecture of Germany and Italy. The camera journeys across America to document Haas' many creations: the Fountainbleau Hilton Hotel in Miami, a fire equipment factory in Phoenix, South Street Seaport in New York City, the Milk Street Mural in Boston, and the FCL Building in Chicago. A time-lapse sequence filmed in Cincinnati charts the metamorphosis of an unadorned wall into a Piranesi-like palace complete with twin staircases and a statue of Cincinnatus.
