Destroyed homes near the beach, people move on through high flood waters. Royal Heiress is christened in Holland. Christening of baby girl to Crown Princess Giuliana. People move forward. People wave, Princess waves (:16-1:47). Undeclared war in second year of Spain's civil war. Spanish men on horseback. Insurgent army. Bombed out buildings, people run through bombed out streets. China is crushed by Japan's artillery. Japanese troops move in. Civilians flee. Buildings on fire. Planes fly in the air. Japanese flag waves. Explosions go off. Planes drop bombs. Civilians flee the city. Panay's hero - medla for Lt. Arthur F. Anders. Arthur F Anders, an officer of the US Navy gunboat USS Panay. Anders helped survivors, injured men. Canada's high honors, Queens University gives a degree to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he speaks. Newly completed Thousand Islands Bridge, FDR cuts the ribbon as the bridge opens (1:48-4:18). Britain's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother visit Paris. A gate is raised and Hitler drives under it and people salute him. Planes in the sky. Historic Reims Cathedral is rededicated. Priests walk. Inside the famed cathedral. People stand for mass. In New Orleans, Louisiana, Cardinal Mundelein imparts a blessing. A large crowd has gathered. England, France, and the U.S. achieve new sky laurels. England's pick-a-back plane, the Mercury. Pan Am's newest, biggest plane, the Boeing 314 Clipper. Howard Hughes flies around the world. A map of his route is shown. A ticker tape parade. Hughes and his crewmen (6:38-8:55). On July 14, 1938, Hughes completed a flight around the world in just 91 hours (three days, 19 hours, 17 minutes), beating the previous record of 186 hours set in 1933 by Wiley Post. Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan flies from Long Beach, CA to NY to Dublin, Ireland, a map of his flight is shown. Ships sail near the Statue of Liberty. Boats in NY Harbor await Corrigan.
