Description: The conflicting viewpoints of father and son, owner and laborer, between profitability and morality are examined in this documentary about a tobacco farm in western Kentucky. Integrated into this portrait of the filmmaker's father is an overview of the economic history of tobacco growing in the United States and the social system allied with it, tenant sharecropping. The contradiction between the staunch Christian convictions of the farming community and the hazardous health effects of its primary commodity is underlined as a cancerous death strikes the farm family.
