Description: . John Quincy Adams has returned to the farm, prepared for a retirement of writing and gardening. However, as fate would have it, Adams is elected to the House of Representatives and goes back to Washington. Vignettes show Adams in his attempts to put anti-slavery petitions before the Congress. The scenario shifts to the Adams' home, where John Quincy hears of the Amistad incident involving the shipboard mutiny of Negro slaves against their Spanish owners and decides to defend the Africans when their case reaches the Supreme Court. Adams dies at 80 after many successful years in Congress.
