Description: Uses time-lapse and close-up photography and drawings to examine the development of an amphibian and a bird. Opens with time-lapse photography of the development of an aquatic salamander from fertilized egg to adult, then examines the major events in the development of the chick embryo. Uses drawings to point out the parts of the egg, the blastoderm, the area pellucida, the area opaca, and the formation of the primitive streak and the three cell layers. Live specimens show the development of the body folds, neural folds, gut, somites, and brain. Uses time-lapse photography to review the early stages of development and the formation of blood vessels, then clarifies the stages in the formation of the heart.
