Complete Record: 1) Commercial - Gangsters on a boat with cases of alcohol. Newspaper headline reads “America’s Going Dry!” The criminals on the boat, all women dressed in men’s suits and carrying guns, load all of the alcohol onto the dock. Turns out it is really Canada Dry Ginger Ale. 2) B & W. Recruitment, very good military propaganda film about female coast guard “spars” and their mission in the military. Women marching in uniform and out eating together. In class learning “the language of the sea,” spars working in offices, 2 shots of huge rolodex. 1 with woman looking through it, “You may not get to be an admiral but you may get to be the admiral’s secretary” women spars issuing awards patches. spar women driving (chauffeur), spar women radio technician, ship to shore operators, typing at a typewriter that says “censored”, “Join the Spars and release a man for sea.” 3) B & W. Pioneers in the woods. They have muskets and tricorn caps. A wooden fort, man in coonskin cap, log cabins, livestock, life in pioneer’s kitchen, tools of pioneers, food cooked over open fire, churning butter, fiddle playing, square dancing, clapping hands, chopping down trees, building a log cabin. Old schoolhouse and teaching children the alphabet. Depicts the hardships of the pioneers, types of community that existed because of these hardships, shows some reasons why pioneers settled the frontier wilderness. 4) Army promo - young men in uniform climb aboard large tanks and drive them around hills and through water. “Army. Be All You Can Be.” 5) Cartoon - a mosquito named Malaria Mike admires his wanted dead or alive poster in a swamp, and he sees SNAFU washing up in the water. After taking a look at a poster of which areas on the body are best to bite, Mike attempts to bite SNAFU but the private keeps unknowingly thwarting the mosquito’s plans. He gets out of the water, then puts his uniform back on, all while Mike tries to figure out ways to get at his flesh. He bites a tree on accident after missing SNAFU...the tree freaks out and dies. SNAFU goes to sleep in his bunk with a mosquito net around him, which Mike cannot penetrate. Mike puts on his finest needle nose and then drills right into SNAFU’s backside. Mike is seen in his living room with his son on one knee as he tells the story and then SNAFU’s head is seen over the fire like a trophy. 6) Commercial - a young woman sits in a wicker seat while eating a small bowl of cottage cheese. She puts it down on a table and picks up a bottle of Alberto Born Free Protein Shampoo. She lathers it into her hair in the shower, and then combs her lovely hair afterwards. 7) B & W. The waves and a beautiful beach in Tahiti. The docks with boats. Women and children in white dresses and hats walk down the island roads. New Zealand natives, Maoris, are seen. They gather water from boiling water holes. They greet each other by touching noses and faces. Carvings and statues are seen. Fiji is next, with a wide sandy beach and a village of huts. Natives in elaborate dress sit and clap together. Topless women do a dance. Samoan Islands are seen with more stable homes, the grave of Robert Lewis Stevenson. A man climbs a palm tree to get the coconuts. Tattoos are seen on some men. Grass skirts are woven by women. Large palm leaves are woven like fabric to make baskets. A ceremony involving more sitting and clapping. Papua and Kalabahai follow this, with more grass huts. Children paddle in long boats on the water. The elevated village huts above the water are seen. Women carry large baskets on one shoulder. A woman rocks a baby that hangs in a sack from a hook, like some sort of bag of food. More tattoos, this time on women. A man with an elaborate feather headdress. More native men. Drumming, a dancing ceremony in the village. 8) A bottle of Ban lotion deodorant is seen. A woman walks with her man in a park. People walk down into a subway. People at the beach. On a roller coaster. Running in a train station. Dancing in a ballroom. Kissing at a door. In a cramped elevator. “Ban takes the worry out of being close.” 9) Newsreel - “Red Teacher Leaps for Life” - Russian farms, chapel are seen. A large building, with men walking out. A kidnapped teacher was taken to Russian Consulate. Another Russian teacher afraid to return home, seeks haven in FBI. He testifies that he is afraid for himself and his family to return to Soviet Union, fearing death. An ambulance takes the injured woman away. 10) The outside of an apartment building is seen at night. Windows light the darkness. Silhouette of a woman answering her phone. Close up of a rat crawling across a wire outside of the building. The rat crawls down the telephone pole and into a garbage can. It rummages around in the trash. Shot of a garbage can against a white backdrop, with a hand making sure the lid is on the can. “Starve a rat today” is shown on screen.
