Description: Dramatizes a story about two single parents (a widowed father of two girls and a divorcee with one daughter) who marry to show that being a real family does not mean living in the same house. Focuses on 12-year-old Carrie's adjustment to her mother's remarriage and the acquisition of a stepfather and two stepsisters. Observes the most serious problem arising when Dominic, thinking his plans will save the family, announces his desire to adopt Carrie, much to her surprise and dismay. Concludes with the family taking its first strides toward becoming a family of friends when Dominic tells Carrie how much he cares for her and that he respects her choice not to be adopted. Based on a novel by Betty Bates.
