Description: A remarkable record of an adventure in mountaineering showing the dramatic first ascent of Mt. Everest without an artificial supply of oxygen. Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler achieved what experts said was impossible--to climb, let alone breathe, at 29,000 feet. Clearly, they had the ability to convert oxygen into energy at a rate normally found only in Olympic-class athletes. Filmed with the help of photographer/climber Eric Jones, their ascent took them up the Lhotse Face and via the South Col to the summit.
