An exploration of the dramatic theories of Jerzy Grotowski, the avant-garde director of the Polish Laboratory Theatre. This film is a recording of an actual performance by Grotowski's theater group and features an informative introduction by Peter Brook. Basing the performance on the 1904 work of the Symbolist poet, Stanislaw Wyspianski, Grotowski and his colleagues developed Akropolis to make a contemporary point about civilization and integrated all of the arts into the production.
