Complete Record: AWACS- Past and Present: most of us recognize the E-3A sentry aircraft- it’s the one with the radar on top. but aircraft warning and control evolved over 30 years ago. the EC-121 warning star evolved from a need for low-level detection in the early 1950’s. The EC-121 saw duty in the SE Asia conflict and eventually gave way to the E-3 that we use today. this month-air force now traces the development of airborne warning and control and looks at current day operations of the E-3A sentry. Project Warrior: Brig. Gen. Robert Scott. “All I want to be in this war isn’t a general or even a colonel, I’m a fighter pilot. I want to go to combat”, general Scott said of his W.W.II experiences. when W.W.II broke out, general Scott found himself flying a desk, but he wanted a piece of action. and a piece of action he got! he found himself in china flying a “hump” as a member of gen. Claire Chennaults’s flying tigers. this month, fly combat mission with one of the members of the W.W.II flying tigers.
