Description: Uses cinephotomicrography, drawings, and simple animation to illustrate the symbiotic relationship among plant and animals which is known as parasitism. Distinguishes among the symbiotic relationships: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. Emphasizes principally the parasitic relationships among animals. Depicts the contributions to this field of zoology by such varied persons as Noah, Moses, Aristotle, Fracastoro, Redi, Leeuwenhoek, Spallanzani, and Pasteur. Describes the life cycles of the louse which requires only a single host and of the rat tapeworm as illustrative of a parasite which requires two or more hosts. Reviews various methods of transmission, control, and diagnosis of parasitic organisms.
