Description: Produced as a public service by Houston-area television station KHOU-TV, Wish You Were Here is a Galveston tourism film from the early 1960s. To explain why Galveston is “America’s wish-you-were-here city,” the film highlights the fictional post-card correspondence of three distinct visitors. In the first, a sea captain talks about the Port of Galveston and the city’s importance as a trade route. In the second, an industrialist dictates a memo about the economic opportunities Galveston affords. In the third, a tourist gushes about the city’s recreational and sight-seeing activities.
