Window Watchers, Episode 7 (November 17, 1954)

hello when the Watchers come on in nothing here on top of the table I really don't have anything to show you that you can make today but I do have some things that I want to tell you about that you can do right there in your own house today we're going to be talking about things that you should be thinking about all the time and I bet you are too without even knowing that you're thinking about them we're going to be talking about about safety and a lot of safety hints that you should know and that you should follow but I'm afraid that I might not be able to do such a good job if I just told you about to myself so I have asked a couple of friends if they would talk with me and with you today too I thought safety and they're right over here next door in the police station so when you come along with me while I go over and talk with them I think I should be out here I was wondering I was just checking to see if everything was in shipshape condition here I didn't want anything to go around you know no I would want thing to go wrong either this is Henry dust by the way and you're a deputy to offer you bet you're the life I am I'm a deputy of the highest order I was deputized several weeks ago and I had my bag I don't wear it all the time you understand so I have my badge and I have my hat and oh everything you know Oh a clown's hat oh please boy jacket a deputy said I should know that but I want to tell you right now that Henry talks fat he just don't you wear but now you be the most time I talk real fast you see mm-hmm just so you understand me if they'd understand me Sammy secretary yes yes I understand you all right well you know I got just lots of things back here if we're gonna talk some safety stuff you know yes I think that you're a good one being a deputy yeah definitely sman that that you should be able to tell us a lot of things we should know about safety you bet just meant i'll get you few hints that artist friends of sand in here that boys gonna slam that door might catch that girl hand in it that's right or perhaps even her nose I hope not her know that would be terrible that's just being plain ordinary polite as well as being safe it certainly is it certainly is do we have another one there yes we do what's it worth right here that looks like a big barn house Oh lot of things and what does it say it says do not play with ladders when Irish eyes are smiling like a spring baby I thought maybe it was somebody don't ever need us where are you I hate white safety Sam deputy you here are you away if there was Sonny oh yeah oh just flatter them up here comes our other friend I could hello thank you all enough of this affection well we can have all kinds of fun here what's been doing well don't talk so fast please yes one thing we can't do on this for what have you going to do in we've been looking at safety and family mm-hmm you seem very nice good good safety and don't fly on the door in anyone's face yeah don't play with ladders yeah thought the other one was Henrik it's shown that when we have guns ya know what that was a dandy Henry's especially interested in people playing with guns because you know he's a duck and he hate to get shot oh yeah particularly yeah if and when duck season comes along you know uh-huh dear good Chuck boy well there are some more things here the more such as well this one I don't know this is a picture of a house is this your house Henry ought to my house my house just you're all that's not a duck house is it I don't think we're a little steps in the duck house well they have ramps don't think yes indeed every what to do anybody's house look no here's the load I bet this is a furnace in the basement sure it is because there's the ground yeah and steps go up you're still living you know kitchen oh and some more steps up into the upstairs bedroom bathroom another bedroom what is that oh the Attic hold everything yes I'm where's the duck pond that must be on the other side of the house Henry where we can see you yeah I don't know about that a house without a duck pond what I always say what is a home without a duck pond shall I begin my talk on duck ponds right now no I'll tell you safety Sam yet what we wanted to talk about today was safety and safety him and around the house but it sure sure that's what the diagrams for the house Oh safety hints around the house and duck pond by Henry duck yes and the way we go where we're gonna start go out in the basement all right I'll wait down here yeah all right oh hey now let's just think what have we got in the basement furnace yeah oh yes one should always be careful of the furnace they shouldn't even get near it because it gets awfully awfully warm yeah and what if we would have some trash barrels next to the furnace deputy oh my goodness no they might catch fire use your paper that's why it should never put trash pan next to the furnace right well should you even have a lot of newspapers and magazines all stacked up in the basement anyway oh no no we might get this contagious combustion what isn't ages kumusta spontaneousness fuckin sages combustion or what is it what I think that's some sort of a sickness and it affects your pipes you know we have pipes in the base too and I have just the thing for that be right back what are you up to a height cleaner oh yes well I guess that's true we should keep our pipes clean that's right now get him back to the basement again should we would it be a good thing for us to go down the basement check and see if we have a lot of all things lives around that could just as well thrown away yeah now in the house with a magic window for instance um do you have a saying basement stairs yes do you have anything on those stairs I mean maybe you were a little bit lazy and taking something down to the basement you well sometime sometimes when I come in if I have owned galoshes or rain boots on I'll set him on the steps instead of taking him down in the basement yeah and what would happen if you went down there at night well I mean if I didn't turn the light on right definitely knows yeah I know I know then why do you do that boy do that again whatever just want what how graceful that's what of a swan dive by a duck here okay did you notice the whistle a long way I noticed a minute but um keeping off the stairway by going down to the basement what about the stairs all into the second floor the same idea holds there we shouldn't put any toys on the steps no instead we should clean them up and put them in the right place in your box or anything like that well what if we were to leave some toys LT oh we don't roller skates or some other toys out just lying around on the living room floor and then someone get up in the middle of the night perhaps or somebody want somebody came to the door late at night it was dark what if we were to trip on those always right oh also much more expressive oh boy maybe he's younger than you are safety sand useful look at those eyes Wow well I know something else that we look oh yes I know something else that we can look for what all over the house what's that light cords light cords you'd find out in the living room one chip say hello white coat hang on just a minute no idea who he's going I think he's going to living room i don't know maybe a little way down there but you have to be careful of those like cords you know because they just may be around someplace and you don't want to get shot or anything to you you'll want to touch it and certainly you would want to trip over them so you can't put them in anyone's way white cords that father boy did you well bring them up now I need good winds or bad one well there you are hanging out down there with you oh just a minute I think I tripped on imagine that hmm these were some points that deputy and I were we were repairing some of the things here in the station house and these were the defective courts oh I see like this right here what's happened here Henry what are safety Sam I guess you brought them you tell about well you see one cord wasn't long enough so a number of months ago we tried to add another wire on just by wiring the wires together if you know what I mean twisting them uh-huh well there were these bare electric wires there I boy it's bad and this everything that is that's really bad well if we find something like this we should call our past attention to it right absolutely and frayed cords to now what's a frayed cord look on the other one there here look at landfill oh look at the other end to look at here that's where plugs in the wall you know that's the plug and if you twist that around you can see wire in there actually let's see we should look for this weekend did you know what what I know some way Henry told me this the other day didn't you Henry that when you're unplugging I'll a front iron off whatever it is that you're unplugging if you will take a hold of the rubber stopper here and pull on it instead of pulling on the cord like that isn't that what you told me yes that's what makes it great if you pull on the cord there well you see that this part was particularly designed for ducks to pull out of the wall you can get a good beat grip show how you can grab one of that say yeah I really that's that that's sensibly design Thank You Henry hey I've gotta go give a lecturer to a group on safety if you'll excuse me for a few moments deputy will carry on boy well I carry on well I know you'll carry on excuse me Sonny all right thank you all see you thank you for coming okay oh I know goodbye but but deputy deputy and I have some other things to talk about now you are interested in talking about safety at the duck pond weren't you that's right well we've mentioned things that we can look for here in some of the rooms of our houses bad wiring and newspapers lying around and oily rags and things and and cluttered up basements and cluttered up attics and things let's go out of doors and talk about some things outside of our house all right you know let's talk about the duck pond all right talk about the duck pond dot coms Oh would you shall eat item what did you do in a duck pond well I do a lot of things in the duck pond I have a lot of safety features that I carry with me to the duck pond to you must understand all right foot ourselves mostly in the duck pond I just swim just swim not the winner that's the winter but in other words we should if we're going to a duck fun or even if its larger or swimming pool be very very careful yeah don't go your deep water unless you can sweets right you shouldn't run around the edges mm-hmm shouldn't push you know that's right i will slip right in but what about on the other side of the duck pond what about building fires on the ground roasting wieners over them there's something that we should remember them isn't there I'm trying to think let's see i can think of what you can do after the fire well that's what I mean oh I get it I pretty smart huh okay after the fire you want to be sure that it oh that's right that's all the time we're going to have today thanks for coming by
