[Music] oh [Applause] in our business keeping track of three and a half million chickens is no small problem controls inventory that's our problem how do you keep track of fringe benefits for 40 000 construction laborers when you build a city from scratch you need help how do you control delivery of thousands of items to over 100 of our supermarkets every day we're not a large company at all but we handle a large amount of items a computer what'll it do for me what'll it do for me the answers to this certainly ought to come in part from the customer himself the people who chose univac and work with the 9000 series daily in maine a man who owns a poultry farm another who manufactures refrigeration units in atlanta and the chief officer of a payroll withholding fund for california laborers city builders in los angeles a giant grocery chain in cleveland and men who make rivers of paint in alabama they're all different businesses but they have one thing in common they all have the same basic need whether they manufacture rivets keep track of a million customers or build cities all businessmen are concerned with the same basic problem using time people and tools for a more efficient and profitable management of a business sometimes the problem is inventory sometimes internal accounting or something else you are about to meet some men who had a variety of typical processing plant to be processed and we place the consumer ready package on the customers table here at hillcrest we're able to process more than ten thousand birds an hour and we do the costing to four decimal places on our univac 9200 computer we obtain weekly figures from the computer on our more than three and a half million live birds before we decided on selecting the univac equipment we did rather an extensive survey at hillcrest to determine which equipment would be the most compatible for our operation we felt that univac had probably the best cost performance ratio of the computers available at that time and their first choice was the univac 9200 the third generation computer univac 9200 was updated to univac 9300 at the end of last year and we have been using univac who will work for as many as a dozen employers within a year and how do we keep track of these records by the univac 9300 uh i have had heavy experience with other manufacturers gear and then i turn to univac and i have found that and this was a very enlightening experience we think that anyone going into computers should outline the specifications the customer has to say what is needed it's a matter of teamwork and teamwork between us and univac has been tremendous we utilize the univac 9300 to maintain control over the payments received from the 5 000 contributing employers on behalf of the 40 000 laborers the need for the computer is to maintain the cash flow of the fund uh this way we're able to invest the money at a very fast pace uh which increases the yield and the return on the investment thereby allowing the fund to expand its benefits program without further contributions from the employer this actually speeds the benefit payments to the employee also we are a self-insured benefit program therefore we take on all the aspects of an insurance company we have to uh process the claims and make the medical payments to the hospitals or to the doctors or other providers of medical services this event by having a computer we're able to check out the employees eligibility and make the necessary payment on a 48 hour turnaround prior to having a computer the turnaround time for a claim payment would run anywhere from four to five days therefore it's a great benefit to the employee we asked about univac service and backup we've had a 9200 1001 for about 18 months with only one relatively minor processor problem this is good performance the thing that pleases us however is univac's attitude toward the service they've been prompt their attitude is very good for our size we probably have as much information on our 9200 system as any corporation you'll find we have our accounting records payroll accounts payable accounts receivable general ledger and the like in addition we have live inventory control flock records and many other pieces of information concerning our company since the equipment has been set up and running the downtime has been very very small we've run with a number of service calls the univac field service has been uh very fine the relationship that fisher foods has had with univac in my opinion has been a very good one whenever we've needed help whether it was with the hardware or with programs or systems they've always been there to help univac not only helps the company to grow but it makes future expansion practical according to those who know the compatibility of the 9200 with the 93 and 9400 wasn't really a factor the thing that did attract us was the expandability of the 9200 itself to include other peripheral devices such as the disk drive subsystem quick delivery and smooth production cycles are very important to the success of our business we have managed to develop what we consider to be a very sophisticated and effective inventory management system with the 9200 the finished inventory management job that you are seeing takes about five minutes on the 9200 it used to take one and a half girls all day one of our major reasons for selecting the univac 9200 system is the fact that the user has ready access to growth components we can add to our printer easily we can add to our core we can add to our other aspects of the equipment very easily and without very lengthy modification to the equipment when we before we bought a uniback we did do a lot of looking around we went to other people who make this type of equipment but we particularly went to friends who are in business not our particular type business but other types businesses and talked to them and looked at that type equipment and we chose univac because it seemed to fit ours better than the others did one question that arises is how does a 9000 series computer affect existing personnel we didn't put in the 9200 to replace people our sole purpose for the computer system was to improve our inventory management our information from our production operation each customer has his own special reason for choosing univac over all computers and centers but since we have started using github 9300 our costs have decreased 5 to 10 volts quite often our applications require much bigger computers than univac 9300 in a case like this
