Designed to motivate student's interest in the study of chemistry by dramatizing a recent discovery—diamond synthesis. Documents the work at Tracy Hall, showing how he was able to use his understanding of the chemistry of carbon, the carbon molecule and diamond to achieve a goal which had eluded scientists for centuries. Dramatizes man's search for remedies throughout the ages; points out the chemists' creative thinking and experimental method in ancient and modern chemistry, its place in the work of science and how it contributes to the welfare of man
