Description: Contrasts warm- and cold-blooded animals and the different ways they maintain their body heat. Demonstrates through experiments why warm-blooded animals require more food for heat production than cold-blooded animals. Explains that cold-blooded animals, such as snakes, goldfish, and crocodiles, adapt by moving to a more comfortable climate while warm-blooded animals, such as squirrels, elephants, porpoises, and zebras, have fur, feathers, or fat which insulates them against changes in temperature.
