Examines the lifestyles and difficulties of poor residents of rural New Jersey, some of whom live within a few miles of large urban centers. Depicts the isolation, low standard of living, inadequate housing, unemployment and sense of defeat of these people as well as the determination of some of them to overcome their plight.
