Description: Dr. Hadley Centril discusses his investigations at the perception Demonstration Center at Princeton of the effects of some of our assumptions on what we see. Shows a distorted room that looks normal, with illustrations that include a rotating trapezoid that appears to oscillate, and balloons that seem to move when in reality they are being inflated and deflated., Presents the work of Dr. Hadley Cantril, psychologist, at the Perception Demonstration Center at Princeton University in his study of the effects of some of our assumptions on what we "see" and how faulty assumptions may lead to incorrect judgments. Pictures distortions in judgment in relation to the distorted room, the rotating trapezoid, and the balloons which appear to move. Explanations of these distortions are given, and the importance of sound assumptions in the success of the scientific method is stressed.
