Description: Jack Blatts, violin maker of Johnson City, Illinois, has a reputation as a craftsman that goes beyond the small town where he runs a violin repair shop. He speaks of his boyhood and his early work as a sculptor, before he turned to wood carving and specifically to violins. He does every step himself--planning the instrument, finding the right woods, carving, assembling, turning, and finishing.
