[Audio distortion] [Announcer] This is CBS, the Columbia Television Network, and now ladies and gentlemen for the second half of today's football classic we take you to the Los Angeles Coliseum. [Sam Balter] This is Sam Balter ready to resume play in today's ball game with the red clad Bourbons of Southern Comfort leading the UCLA Bruins by a single field goal from the educated toe of All-American Michael Tool. [Balter] The paid attendance for today's game has not been announced as yet but might be safe to assume that apparently television is affecting the box office... to a certain extent. [Balter] However, there are a few loyal rooters here in person. [Balter] And here come the UCLA Brooms. They're a little green but determined. [Balter] This of course is Pat Patterson, UCLA's All-American. [Balter] And here are the Bourbons...chatting with the referee. [Balter] This is Sam "Caveman" Jones, a weightlifter and the strongest man on the squad. And here is Michael Tool. [Balter] The Brooms will kick off to start the second half. The field is in fairly good shape considering last night's surprise snowstorm here. [Balter] Now down on the field "Caveman" Jones is planting his own personal ball for the Broom kicker. Certainly, a nice gesture. [Balter] Now the Bruins are ready to kick and here they come. [Balter] Ooh. Something seems to have gone wrong in the field. It's difficult to say exactly what happened, but now the referee is inspecting the ball and I think it's not quite regulation. [Balter] Now Michael Tool has a few words to say. Don't think he's happy with Jones. [Balter] So the Brooms kick again. [Balter] It's a high and over end kick. Jones is waiting for it. He's waiting...his mother is watching today. [Boink] [Balter] The ball is loose on the field and there's a big pile-up. [Whistles] [Balter] The referee is looking for the ball. [Balter] Now he has it... and... [Balter] It's a first down for Southern Comfort. [Balter] Now out of the huddle and on up to the line of scrimmage come the Bourbons...into a tight tee they go. O'Toole calling the signals. [Balter] O'Toole takes the snap he hands off to Jones. No, no, he fakes to it, no, he hands off to Wischnewski [spelling?]. [Balter] Mmm, no, he gives to Smith...he keeps the ball! [Balter] Beautiful ball handling and now O'Toole's fading the pass, he's going... he...uh... uh...my spotters inform me it was Jones through the middle after all he fumbled and... Well, what do you know? UCLA recovers. [Balter] So now out of the huddle come the UCLA Brooms and their familiar serpentine formation. [Balter] Around the bend they come and back into the single wing with Pat Patterson and the tailback spots. [Balter] Ball goes to Patterson over tackle and there he is met and brought down hard by "Caveman" Jones and... Whoa. [Balter] The referee saw that one and it looks like there's going to be a penalty against Southern Comfort. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 8, 30... Well, let's see what this is. [Balter] But wait a minute, Patterson was really shaken up on the last play. He's still down on the field. [Balter] Now the boys are helping him up but I think that's all we're going to see of Patterson for the rest of today's ballgame. [Balter] Believe me, that's going to hurt the Brooms quite a bit. [Balter] Ladies and gentlemen, before play resumes I want to announce this since we would like to bring you all of today's game and still be off the air in time for the five o'clock adventures of "Buck Cotssible and His Sidekick Clutie," we have made arrangements with the conference to speed the game up a little. Now, I think we're just ready to do that. Yes, yes, yes, now. [Whistle] [Narration audio sped-up] [Gun fires] [Narration audio sped-up] [Whistles] [Announcer] Uh, one moment please. We have lost our picture. [Announcer] Thank you for waiting, ladies and gentlemen, and now, back to the Coliseum. [Balter] And so with 20 seconds left in the game Southern Comfort has fumbled in the UCLA 5-yard line. [Balter] The Brooms are still trailing but if they can recover this fumble anything might happen. [Balter] And they do, a first down for UCLA. Can they do it? [Balter] It's doubtful with Patterson's still on the bench. But wait a minute. The coach... is sending him back into the game. [Balter] Now Ken Patterson and the Brooms pull one out of their bag of tricks with just 20 seconds left to play. [Balter] The Bourbon linebackers are digging in. [Balter] And now out of the huddle come the UCLA Brooms ready to take that last crack at pay dirt. Up to the line they come in spread formation. [Balter] The ball comes back to Ackerman, he hands off to Sproul, who gives to Paget, who laterals wide to Patterson and he's on his way. [Balter] Jones is chasing him but I don't think he's going to get him. It looks like Patterson is going all the way. [Football player] Look out, Pat! [Balter] And Patterson scores for UCLA. The game is over. The Brooms win it! [Gun fires]
