They are bussed to an airfield where a C54 plane waits for boarding. The marines file on board. An animation indicates their travel from Chicago, IL to the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA. Marines in service uniforms pass a Japanese landing craft. A sailor and a Navy Lt. have a discussion outside of a nondenominational Christian chapel. Young marines sit on the ground in tactical gear as they receive a lecture from an officer in service uniform. They perform drills, simulating the exiting of a ship onto an LVT for landing exercises. Target practice performed with M1 rifles under the instruction of a master sergeant. Marines fire 81mm and 60mm mortars in a trench. Ranking marine delivers direction to onlookers about an M-2 flame-thrower before a demonstration. US Pacific Fleet Navy band marches and plays with as marines march, rifles in hand. The USS Pender County (LST-1080) floats in the background as marines rest on the beach. An animation indicates change of location to San Clement Island. Upon a hill, marines overlook the island's coast. A group of marines watch through binoculars as what appears to be a fletcher-class destroyer fires onto the shore.
