Description
Field Day, rodeo, and funeral at Camp Pendleton on July 8, 1949. Major General Graves B. Erskine and Brigadier General Harry B. Liversedge ride on horseback, followed by the Fallbrook Riders of San Diego County, a horse drawn wagon with a Marine band on board, a horse drawn carriage, and a truck with a camera crew on board. Marines play golf. A Marine color guard and Marines lead a funeral procession down the street. A flag reads, "Fallbrook Post No 776 Fallbrook California American Legion." Pallbearers of the Army and Navy carry a casket draped with the American flag. The funeral procession arrives at the cemetery. Catholic clergy conduct the funeral and Hispanic civilians spectate. Marines perform a 21-gun salute. Navy pilots receive instructions and board FJ2s of VMF-311. Maintenance crews prepare FJ2s for takeoff. Marines arrive on trucks to the airstrip and board R4Ds and R4Qs of VMR-252. A F4U of VMF-311 sits on the runway. Content related to USMC 103372.
