Description
Retirement ceremony for General Graves B. Erskine in Norfolk on July 1, 1953. The color guard and troops stand on the parade ground as General Erskine and his daughter enter, shaking hands with General O.P. Smith, unidentified Marine officers, and unidentified Naval admirals. Erskine speaks to a crowd of troops, Women Marines, civilians, and officers. Erskine's daughter pins the four stars on Erskine's shoulder as he is promoted. O.P. Smith and Erskine talk and shake hands. Erskine speaks to the crowd again.
