Description
The TTU (Troop Training Unit) was a special Naval unit mostly composed of Marines who fought in the Pacific in WWII. The initial function of the TTU was to teach amphibious landing skills to all of the military services. After the entrance of Communist China into the Korean War in late 1950, the TTU took on the task of training troops for amphibious evacuation.
TTU maneuvers at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. Marines in combat gear jump from a LCVP down into a LCT-3. The Marines are drilled by a Marine wearing a "TTU" armband. The Marines disembark the LCT-3. LCVPs move towards the shore. Marines disembark the LCVPs and storm the beach. Enlisted Marines wearing "TTU" armbands and an unidentified Marine officer inspect map overlays. An unidentified Gunnery Sergeant who inspects the map overlays wears the insignia of the 5th Marine Division. An unidentified Marine observes while LCVPs move towards the beach. Marines disembark the LCVPs and storm the beach. A LST is visible in the background. Marines disembark a LCM which has just landed on the beach. The LCM prepares to back away from the beach. A motor launch helps the LCM back away from the beach. Two unidentified officers talk to each other on the deck of a ship. LCMs and LCVPs move around offshore. Marines from an attack transport climb down cargo nets over the side of the ship into LCMs. Unidentified Naval and Marine officers watch the maneuvers.
