Compares two electronic factories which manufacture similar products and employ vast labor forces--Matsushita of Osaka, Japan, and Sylvania of Batavia, N.Y. Although both companies have been propelled to success by a strong sense of drive to meet outside competition, internally they differ greatly because the cultural traditions of the societies to which they belong shape their structures and philosophies.
