A motor expedition from Cape Verde, on the West Coast of Africa, eastward through Dakar, Barmaku and Gao to Timbuctoo. The chief purpose of the expedition was the gathering of ornithological museum specimens. Some of the most unusual close-up pictures of bird life ever made with the movie camera are shown. The course of the journey is followed by map animation.
