Complete Record: A young, middle-aged, and an old woman all agree that life on a small Chinese island in Hong Kongwater is better for them now than it was in the past. Through their economic and social positions differ, each has much to say about the changing role of women in Chinese society as they go about their daily tasks. Film was made in 1973 on the Soko Islands, the Cantonese inhabitants either fish from small family-owned junks or live ashore cultivating pineapples or vegetables, and raising pigs. The film is built around three vignettes of women in different stages of life. It also portrays rural coastal life of both boat women and farm women.
