Description: The brilliant staging of Julien Duvivier and an excellent cast put over this new French picture in a convincing fashion. Jean Gabin and Charles Vanel assay the two principal male roles in expert fashion and Micheline Chereil carries the feminine lead neatly. Viviane Romance is excellent as a lady of the streets and Raymond Aimos, Charles Dorat and Raphael Medina provide top-notch support in smaller roles. Duvivier wrote the story and directed. The story concerns the pooling of a lottery winning to start life anew for five down and out people. There is tragedy and pathos with a happy ending. (Recommended for curriculum enrichment.)
