Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch.

this year the GT and cobras powered by Ford roared away with the first five places in an event where Ferrari had finished one two three the year before again at Daytona in the biggest stock car competition of the year the famous Daytona 500 Ford product scored a phenomenal sweep of the first 10 positions and at Indianapolis in the biggest most exciting competition event of them all the Memorial Day 500 Ford swept to the most thrilling impressive victory of them all with ford-powered entries overwhelming competition finishing first second third fourth with winner Jimmy Clark rewriting the record book with his Sleek Lotus sport roaring to new records for both average speed and elapsed time of the 33 cars that started the grueling 500 only 11 finished this year and of these
