The Soviet Union: A New Look

An overview of the Soviet Union as it is in the 1970’s. An opening animated sequence sets the stage for rare newsreel footage of life under the Czarist government, followed by historical material shot by Julien Bryan in the 1930’s. The fact that this vast country is made up of diverse areas as Siberia, Central Asia, and Europe, is reflected in the great variety of its citizens, the wide range of climate, customs, dress, and background. Shows kindergartens, schools, universities, artists at work, a ballet school, tractor factory, farmer’s market, new housing construction and a family spending an evening at home at Moscow. The role of Soviet women is also depicted.
