Description: Recreates, in six programs, the historic efforts of several 19th century expeditions to trace the Nile to its source. ContentsEpisode 1: The dream of the wanderer. - Richard Burton, who led the expedition for Britain's Royal Geographical Society, and David Livingston begin independent explorations. - episode 2: Discovery and betrayal. - Speke's discovery of Lake Victoria and his quarrel with and betrayal of Burton. - Episode 3: The secret fountains. - Speke's second expedition, his discovery of Ripon Falls and meeting with the Bakers. - episode 4: The great debate. - Speke and Burton argue about the Nile's source; the Bakers discover Murchison Falls and Lake Albert; circumstances of Speke's mysterious death. - episode 5: Find Livingston. - Stanley finds Livingston and Livingston's death. - episode 6: Conquest and death. - Stanley continues Livingston's work; Burton dies and his manuscripts are destroyed by his wife.
