Description: In this KHOU-TV special news report, reporter Nick Gearhardt reports on the death of Monsignor Daniel Pius O’Connell, better known as Father Dan. O’Connell served a the pastor of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Galveston from 1933 until his death in 1966. In honor of the beloved reverend, Gearhardt shares an interview he conducted with O’Connell in 1964 to mark the 50th anniversary of his joining the priesthood. In the interview, O’Connell describes why he chose Texas and a prescient encounter he had with Lyndon B. Johnson.
