Tells the story of the poky little puppy who outwits the four other puppies in the family and eats all of the dessert each night. Explains that the four puppies decide to do as their mother would have them do and are given their dessert before they go to bed. Shows that the poky little puppy is very surprised when he gets home and must go to bed without any dessert. Develops an awareness of numbers and the use of printed symbols to represent spoken language.
