Magnificent symphonies and sonatas of Beethoven, played by the Paris Conservatoire, Societe des Concerts. Harry Baur, outstanding European dramatic star, in the title role, plays an excellent part as the great composer. Shows Beethoven's tragic sorrow when he became deaf, and how the fierce storms of nature inspired him to surpass the might of Nature's wrath, and write music which would endure forever. Out of this sorrow, and his keen disappointment when his beloved Juliette married the nobleman, Count Gallenburg, comes the determination to compose the majestic music which now is recognized throughout the world, and which we hear in this picture-play biography, with such numbers as The Pastoral Symphony, Moonlight Sonata, 5th Symphony, 6th, 7th and 8th. Story ends with a very impressive concert scene, and as the great master lies dying, word is brought to him that his music was cheered and recognized, and that it will live forever. A special vocal and instrumental arrangement of "Moonlight Sonata" closes the story, with a quotation from Wagner, who is credited with the statement, "I Believe in God—and Beethoven."
