Description: Shows the importation of the vedalia ladybird beetle from Australia and the subsequent control of the cottony-cushion scale. Pictures the life cycle of the cottony-cushion scale and its destructiveness to citrus fruits, apples, and walnuts. Tells how the scale was first discovered in 1872, and depicts the discovery by Albert Koebele in Australia of the ladybird beetle species that ate cottony-cushion scales. Concludes by showing many different species of ladybird beetles and picturing the hibernation of the adult during the winter.
