you is anybody there she is that's Molly Goldberg folks a woman with a place in every heart and a finger in every pie and now the makers of new do that new kind of soap for everything right down your wash line bring you another visit with those good folks The Goldbergs [Music] you know I overheard an interesting piece of conversation the other day first I heard just think of it Mrs Murphy does does everything in the wash glory be one soap for everything sure does is a new kind of granulated soap and it does all three kinds of War work shirts towels to pretty rayon slips well I said to myself looks like a new does customer being born but Mrs Murphy turned out to be a regular skeptic she said I'll go along with you how can this one Soul be so safe for pretty rayons and and still get greasy work shirts clean well does does it why you should see my husband's work shirts he brings home from that war plant they're stre with grease but does get them really clean and I don't do any hard scrubbing either well I never used a soap that gets clothes clean easier well I thought now Mrs Murphy's convinced but no how about my towels they get plenty dirty listen your towels don't get any dirtier than mine you should see the factory dirt my husband wipes on them but I'm telling you does get some dazzling white why there's not a whiter wash in the neighborhood than mine well what our skeptical lady got to say about that well sure that's fine but what about my rayon slips and the other nice colored things I wash you know they need extra care in Wartime so they last longer I know and that's what does gives them Extra Care why it's much safer for those precious colors in fact they stay bright far longer with do longer than with any of the four other leading granulated soaps well now I've heard enough I'm going to change to do right away there's a lady who took a lot of convincing but once she tries does she'll see it's not just an improvement of an old soap it's Proctor and Gamble's new soap Discovery so friends change to does Duz today ask for the giant size box it saves money remember even in the toughest wartime wash does does everything and now the Goldbergs all Molly's little domestic Maneuvers were going along fine and the wedding she had a hand in the marriage of Mary foot and Bruce Hanley is about to take place at the village church but Molly had her chores to do that morning and now that Sammi is in the Army milking was one of them so Molly became a witness to something that is going to make a vast difference in the days to come she saw a child playing in the road and a car came by and there was a scream and now a little while later [Music] listen sleep darling CL Ros why don't you go to the wedding go to the change I'll wait M papa is there go darling and I will follow you I can't not until Elizabeth's mother comes I'll wait don't wait and go down sleep sleep good on I'll be there before Bruce put the rink on Mary's finger if not you'll tell me everything go there go and I'll see if she'll sleep if I'll put her on the couch how is she sh all like she was only frightened Mikey aren't you coming no no I don't feel well enough well then how can you go back to Camp if you don't feel well Mikey well I'm well enough Mikey I'll be all right Rosie Mikey would would you marry me before you go would you no no well don't you love me you know I do Rosie don't be afraid of what I'll feel like being here home while while you're in the Army Mikey if people love each other they ought to get married yeah I believe that too then you're too young Rosie I'm 17 that's very very young Rosie you're just thinking of me you you're trying to protect me well I don't want to be protected Mikey I want to be just like all the other girls I'm old enough to take my share of the war I love you Rosie and I'm not trying to protect you I'm not trying to keep one bit of suffering from you because I believe that that we're all entitled to our own experience of life and this world is ours good or bad it's ours to live in and change well then why can't because you're 17 and not 18 or 19 that's why that and nothing else Rosie you're waiting for that one big year to pass all right and you just have to wait to pass it and when you do I'll ask you to marry me then if you still want to we'll get married no matter where I'm going no matter when I'll get back Mike now look if you cry Rosie you you'll get my shirt wet you know khaki shows it oh Mikey look you you better go to Bruce's wedding see how it's done huh right I put her down on the couch BS up again oh my kid there a window open is a draft closet here darling please yeah all right R go already darling kiss me for me and congratulate Bruce and don't talk in the church good goodbye Mama darling go darling go are you happy the way everything turned out I'm very happy ma she's sleeping yes ma if if I old enough yeah would would you let me marry Mikey before he goes back to smoes when I lift her poor kid it would have been it's a Shar shock is your mother coming somebody sent word to the mother I didn't want it somebody did she works in the plant in Bridgeport a war plant yeah Mikey Mikey it's only when you have a quiet moment that you can think a little bit Mikey and suddenly suddenly then you understand what's what's going on all around you a child left alone a mother leave leaves children for for a whole day and why War my family the Army why War Mikey Rosalie asked me something yeah I uh I think she's too young Mikey so why thank [Music] you Mikey I'm just rocking and I'm just thinking how inconsequential I am look how occupied how occupied I was and look for how long my whole mind was taken with Emma if Sammy liked Emma Emma liked Sammy if Emma was right for Bruce if Bruce was right for Emma and with all mine figuring all mine figuring it turned out contrary to all my mathematics mik key mik key I'm decided My Mind Is Made Up for the duration mik no more mixing no more matching I can't twiddle my fingers if I was in London England or if I was in stalen grad what would I be doing not making love matches Mikey this is London this is stal grat this is all the places in the world there's no time for twiddling Mikey there's no time you tell me Mikey you tell me what I don't know I I go twice a week to to Red Cross Mikey I make bandages but but I I I want more Mikey all right so I save my fats and I save the drippings and and I give it to the butcher but I want more Mikey I gave all M scrap and my rub and mine iron but I want more so I made a very victory garden Mikey and to be a whack and to be a wave I'm too old Mikey I I I want to do something Mikey that'll that'll take my whole head and my heart and my soul like I I I don't want to have one moment or one second that belongs to me not for the duration somebody sh who Mikey look if it's the mother I better take the child inside go look Mikey some woman I wouldn't know her huh that's Mrs Nelson open the door I'll take the child in because she'll get the child nervous with hysterical [Music] H I'm Mrs Nelson where's Elizabeth she's all right oh where is she sh quiet quiet she she's sleeping I've warned her never to go into the road that's all right she's only a baby my sister was to look after her all right I've been afraid all the time that this would happen I stand there at the machine I keep worrying my neighbor said she'd keep an eye on her she's got her own children maybe you could find a job or something in in in the town Mrs Nelson oh there's a war going on Mrs Goldberg I'm working in a defense plant so is my husband my husband works all kinds of hours I'll never leave her again I'll never really again yes you will Mrs Nelson yes you will you you you leave her here with me every day when you go to work and at night when you come back o Mikey I found a new horizon Mikey Mikey I found a horizon would you miss go Mrs Nelson I wouldn't I will I am the two women Comfort the child and Mikey stands aside and sees the whole War symbolized before him but Molly doesn't quite realize what she's stirring up in lenbury you know it's a shame to
