The English language: story of its development

Traces the history of the English language from its roots in the Anglo and Saxon tongues, through its infusion of French and Latin, and finally its emergence as a printed language which is still growing and changing. The influence of Church monks, William the Conqueror, Chaucer and Shakespeare are discussed.
